Would I Have to Go to a Japanese Store for Matcha?

I’m not really into Japanese food but I plan on making green tea ice cream and it calls for Matcha, a green tea power. Is it something you’d be able to find in a big grocery store, or is it something mostly Japanese places sell?

Also, my main question, could I just use green tea bag for making this?

Both girls are right, and I am a former chef and worked in Japan, I would try health food store, or buy a package of green tea, in bags or loose, and buzz it in a food processor or blender, with a teaspoon of cornstarch, sugar does well to, you need anti-clumping agent or abrasive.

I can buy it here in Toronto Canada in many places, but has done this procedure a few times, I to make it with both dairy and non dairy ingredients.

No you but you can buy on line at http://www.matchasource.com/matcha-s/1.htm

You can order on line or by phone and there are a Matcha powder for making dessert too. Please check it out. Enjoy making Green Tea Ice cream. It’s also one of my favourite flavours.

sometimes health food stores have hard to find stuff like this. You should try whole foods.
