Both girls are right, and I am a former chef and worked in Japan, I would try health food store, or buy a package of green tea, in bags or loose, and buzz it in a food processor or blender, with a teaspoon of cornstarch, sugar does well to, you need anti-clumping agent or abrasive.

I can buy it here in Toronto Canada in many places, but has done this procedure a few times, I to make it with both dairy and non dairy ingredients.

No you but you can buy on line at http://www.matchasource.com/matcha-s/1.htm

You can order on line or by phone and there are a Matcha powder for making dessert too. Please check it out. Enjoy making Green Tea Ice cream. It's also one of my favourite flavours.
